Rev. Jenny Gray

At lot of people know me as Revd Jenny, in church as priest of St Andrew and Mary in Watton-at-Stone, part of the Beane Valley Benefice but did you also know I am a governor of Watton School? After my arrival in the benefice in May 2013 I was invited to join the governing body here as a Community governor, helping to involve the school in the community and bringing insights from my role in the village into school. I volunteered to be the governor with responsibility for oversight of Safeguarding within the school, working with the safeguarding staff to ensure all our policies are up to date.  I come into school once a fortnight to lead an assembly collective on a Thursday morning and invite parents, staff and pupils to share in services in church at key times of the year – as a former teacher and mum of 4, now grown-up, boys I love this job!  I try to provide opportunities for our children to learn more about faith through visits to church to tie in with the curriculum and fun activities like the Angel, Sheep and Noah’s ark Trails.   With the recent focus on British Values it’s worth noting that since 2002 all schools have a duty to promote spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) values across each subject area, creating a strong school ethos with high expectations of behaviour and ethics in which all children can flourish.  It is a huge privilege to be part of such a dedicated and hard-working team.
