Pupil Premium
Pupil Premium Grant
Every year, the school receives additional funding under the title, Pupil Premium Grant (PPG). This is a source of public funding made available to schools by the Government. It is targeted income which should be used to provide opportunities for disadvantaged pupils in order to raise achievement. Disadvantaged pupils include children who are known to be eligible for Free School Meals (FSM); this includes pupils eligible for FSM at any point in the last six years (known as the Ever 6 FSM measure). Children who are looked-after by the local authority, as well as previously looked-after (a pupil who has left local authority care through adoption, a special guardianship order or child arrangements order) also fall under this definition.
The national trend is that disadvantaged pupils have lower achievement than non-disadvantaged pupils. Therefore, this funding should enable the school to overcome any barriers to learning and consequently, close or minimise gaps between pupils eligible for PPG and those who are not.
It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium Grant is spent. We therefore make careful assessments before allocating and spending this targeted funding. We base our decisions on what the barriers to achievement are for individuals, together with our knowledge of research based interventions that are known to produce the best outcomes.
Non-eligible pupils
Schools can spend their pupil premium on pupils who do not meet the eligibility criteria but need extra support.
Example
Schools can use the pupil premium to support other pupils, for example, if they:
- are in contact with a social worker
- used to be in contact with a social worker
- are acting as a carer

We are required to publish online information about how we have used the grant. The purpose of this is to inform parents/carers and others of the attainment/progress of eligible pupils and the extra support that they receive.
